Thanks to our home church, Grace Community, who bought these supplies for the church in Huaticocha. Grace Student Ministries brought a team down in June to Ecuador to serve. Their destination...Huaticocha, a small village town in the jungle. This preparation trip took place a few weeks before the team was coming down to dig a big hole and hopefully install another outside toilet.
And very true to Casey's form, he does not waste an opportunity to pour into others lives. Casey asked Ben, one of the interns with Inca Link this summer, and some young teenage boys from Opcion de Vida (the street kid ministry in the park) to come along and help serve the people in Huaticocha.
Along the windy roads of the mountains to the jungle, they came upon a terrible very recent (way too recent for my likings - thank you God for protecting them) landslide that blocked the road and left them unable to continue their journey to Huaticocha. One person was tragically killed in the landslide.
They turned their car around and went to spend the night in another town. They enjoyed their evening together in Tena. My favorite part was Casey telling me that in his room at the hostal were all 3 boys in his bed with him watching the movie, Dumb and Dumber in Spanish. I love that mental picture! Here are the 3 boys: Boris, Stephen, and Yeison.
The next morning the road was open for them to continue to Huaticocha. Here they go... Never a dull moment in Ecuador.
Once in Huaticocha, the work began digging a giant hole for the potty. Unfortunately they did not have enough time to get to finish their project because Casey had to get the boys back to Quito for school. All of the supplies were left there for the church members to finish building the bathroom. Here is a picture of what they were trying to replicate. This is the other existing outside bathroom.
Exelente, buen trabajo.
